Worldsong - Play the Streets

WorldSong is a choir with a difference: stunning harmonies, uplifting songs, inspiring rhythms, music for the soul. We sing harmony songs from the world music repertoire, specialising in traditional songs from Eastern Europe, Africa, Britain, America and beyond. With harmonies drawn from centuries-old oral traditions; from gospel to work songs; from haunting chants to rousing celebration — there is something here for everyone.

On stage at the Belgrade, Coventry

WorldSong celebrates the richness of the human voice by singing without instrumental accompaniment. Our repertoire of songs is drawn from cultures where singing and dancing are as natural as talking and walking. The choir was formed in 1997 by Chris Rowbury with the basic philosophy that everyone can sing. From small beginnings, the choir is now around 60 strong and continues to be run on natural voice principles by talented vocalist, composer, choir and workshop leader Una May Olomolaiye.

Worldsong - Play the Streets in full swing

WorldSong has performed extensively and presented concerts throughout the region. We perform around three local concerts in Coventry each year. We now have in excess of 170 songs in our repertoire, some of which can be found on our latest CD. Many of our songs have been especially arranged for unaccompanied voice by Chris Rowbury. Song arrangements are available to buy in a variety of formats for your choir or singing group.

This website is regularly updated with news of the many singing workshops that both Una May and Chris run, as well as the latest news of the choir, together with an archive of our past exploits. Our information section contains a site map along with useful links to other websites and details of the blog on choirs and singing written by Chris.

Both Una May and Chris can also be booked to run a wide range of singing workshops on a variety of themes.

We're always interested in hearing from you with comments and feedback about the website and our various concerts and workshops. You can also contact us to be put on our mailing list to be kept informed of our activities, and even go on the waiting list to join the choir.
